Our Clients
“For I was an hungered, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in: Naked, and ye clothed me: I was sick, and ye visited me: I was in prison, and ye came unto me.” Matthew 25:35-36
Many people ask us where we get our children. Some come straight off the streets, some from the hospitals, some from concerned citizens, and others are referred from other agencies. Recently, several children’s homes in the area have closed, leaving us to be the only private, licensed residential child-caring facility in the region. We work very closely with the Department of Social Welfare and Development in Baguio City, and as our relationship with them grows, our clientele does also.
All abandoned, neglected, abused and orphaned children, male or female, ages 0-18 are eligible for placement in our facility. In a society where poverty abounds and parents desire so desperately to give their children a better chance, many children are given up for what is perceived to be in their best interest. Because we want to encourage the integrity of the family unit, and not enable weak parents to give up their children so easily, we have set some guidelines on the children we will admit. Children must have no eligible family members able or willing to provide for their basic needs. Our goal is to only accept children referred by family when it is the last option in lieu of abandonment or neglect.
In the past, we have been able to offer refuge for some young single mothers of newborns who were in desperate situations but did not want to give their babies up. They were able to volunteer in the home on a short-term basis while caring for their children, learning to be a good mother and having all their needs met. In a college town such as Baguio City, this is a vast need, and we hope and pray that some day we will have the facilities to help more clients such as these.
